Escape the Midwinter Chill
With average temperatures well below freezing the mid weeks of January, it wasn’t hard to be tempted by the mid ‘70s forecast and crystal clear waters of Key Largo, FL. This time, temptation was complimentary of the Upper Keys Sailing Club who was hosting the Buccaneer and Mutineer “Dead Dogs and Tin Whistles” regatta (which was also the Buccaneer 18 Mid-Winter championship). The New Breed
Each of us has some type of dreams and hobbies. For most of us reading this newsletter, sailing fills much of that void. For me and for some others working on it, the boats fills the rest.
Last winter I took on a project that served many purposes. First, I promised a friend that I would help him out of a logistical dilemma; second, I promised a charter boat to another sailor for a regatta over nine hours from my home; and third, I set out to resurrect a boat that hadn’t been sailed in more years than anyone can remember, and certainly not by its last two owners. Buccaneer Cruising Around Hilton Head Island
Just after Christmas this year Kristi and I were invited to go on a trip to Hilton Head Island with some friends. We decided to take our Bucc along for the trip since the South Carolina weather forecast was for the Mid 70’s and Maryland temperatures were going to be 30 to 40 degrees lower. More......

KEY LARGO….LOWER LATITUDE, HIGHER TEMPERATURES!
For most folks the idea of sitting in a crowded mini-van, for 19 hours, eating truck stop food, and watching tired DVD’s doesn’t sound like much fun, and I would have to agree. But for me, that is just a small price to pay for escaping the cold of winter, and getting away for 3 days to sail and race in the warm air and water of the Florida Keys. More......
